Ontvangst van een Scholar uit USA-Nepal

Dear Anne,

Greetings from Nepal.

I am excited to let you know that I have successfully completed all the coursework for my MSc in Conflict Resolution and Governance program at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. I have submitted my thesis, which is the last component of my degree, and am waiting for my grade. Once the grade is submitted by my professor in August, I will receive my graduation diploma in September. Since I have completed the coursework, I have moved out of the Netherlands to my home in Nepal. My year in Amsterdam went excellently - both personally and academically, and while I am very sad to have left this great city, I am also excited about the upcoming adventure.

On that note, I am delighted to let you know that I was offered a PhD position at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland. The school offered me a doctoral spot, with scholarship, in their Health Systems program at the Department of International Health. This is a dream come true! I have accepted their offer and officially enrolled to start the five-year program in September this year. I am excited and honored to have the chance to study as well as do research in this top-rated public health university. While this does delay my aspiration to start working professionally, I believe that getting a PhD first will give me the background to then do even more substantive work in Nepal and elsewhere.

I can not express enough gratitude for the guidance and support you extended to me during my year as the Rotary Global Grant Scholar. Please accept my sincere apologies for not being able to say good-bye in person. The move-out and thesis writing processes created a chaotic scene, so had to leave Amsterdam swiftly.

Thank you again for everything!

Sincerely,

Sudip Bhandari

Dear Anne,

Greetings from District 5960 in Minnesota/Wisconsin USA. We have a student who has been selected by our District to become a Global Scholar, funded solely by our District DDF with matching funds from TRF World Funds, to attend the University of Amsterdam and study at the Anne Frank Institute. In processing the grant application we need you to personally go on line and Authorize this program. There is no financial impact to your District. But, we are asking you to take Sudip under your District wings to invite him to Rotary meetings, help him acclimate to the society in Amsterdam and the Netherlands and help us keep him focused on his studies. (From what I've seen that is not a problem, now or in the future) He is a native of Nepal but received his undergraduate degree in our District at St. Olaf University, a liberal arts degree with a focus on "Peace and Conflict Resolution."

I would truly appreciate your prompt fulfillment of this request as it is the only missing piece to receiving the matching funds to our DDF contribution from the TRF World Fund. It is easily done by accessing your Rotary.org/myrotary account and proceeding to the Global Grants activities.
