Rotary International is launching a search for a new General Secretary. The current General Secretary, Ed Futa, is retiring on 30 June 2011 after 10 years of service.
The General Secretary is the chief operating officer, who reports directly to the 19-member Board of Directors for Rotary International (RI) and the 15-member Board of Trustees for The Rotary Foundation (TRF), and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the operations for both RI and TRF with a staff of over 600 professionals.
RI and TRF have a combined budget of over US$100 million and assets of $980 million. The General Secretary has responsibility for all fiduciary and management issues of both corporations and for coordinating the work of the professional staff with the volunteer efforts of Rotarians. The staff and volunteers work together to support and strengthen the clubs, focus and increase humanitarian service, and enhance the public image and awareness of Rotary International on a global scale.
Candidates should have significant executive experience and demonstrated success in management of an organization with a comparable operational budget and employee base. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are needed to work with both the volunteer Rotarian leaders and paid professional staff in carrying out the goals and objectives of RI and TRF. The ability to work across varying cultures and global protocols is essential. International business experience and knowledge of board/staff relationships are both preferred. Proficiency in the English language is a requirement. Candidates should have a deep passion for the programs and mission of both Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.
Rotary International is partnering with Korn/Ferry International for this important global search. Expressions of interest or recommendations of potential candidates will be held in strict confidence and should be sent to: RotaryInternational@kornferry.com
