Speech by Edward Asscher

Location: Hilton

Time: 18:30

The Kimberley process by Edward Asscher, fellow Rotarian. The Kimberley process (Kimberleyprocess)is a joint government, international diamond industry and civil society initiative to stop the flow of conflict diamonds. Conflict diamonds originate from war torn countries; they are unethically sourced and sold to fund warfare, violence and civil destruction The Kimberley process requires that all diamonds are labelled by the government at origination point and security sealed during transportation.

The Asscher family actively campaigns for an ethically operating diamond industry.  Edward Asscher, was one of the forefathers of the Kimberley Process; his pioneering work helped convince mining companies, governments and Non Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) to accept and use the Kimberley process.

Speech by Francesca Fulminante

Location: Hilton

Time: 18:30

Infancy and Infant Feeding in Central Italy (1150-500 BC ca) and Beyond by Francesca Fulminante, archeologist, Supervisor and Visiting Fellow of Archaeology at the University of Cambridge. She is author of publications with the Cambridge University about Rome and Latium Vetus. Her latest publication is "The Urbanisation of Rome and Latium Vetus. From the Bronze Age to the Archaic Era".

The study of infancy and infant feeding in the past has generally been approached from within an historical or art history perspective, but progress in biomolecular archaeology over the last thirty years offers novel integrated approaches which open new research perspectives.

This speech will illustrate the representation of infancy in Latium vetus and other regions of central Italy during the Early Iron Age (1150-500 BC ca) and by taking a pan-European perspective will suggest a new research agenda for the study of infancy and infant feeding in pre-Roman and Roman Italy.

Many thanks to Ingrid.
