Catherine spreekt in zeer rap maar duidelijk Engels enthousiast over haar studie en idealen. In het onderstaande zijn dus vast wel hiaten.
My vision for a better world. Thank you very much for having me. I share a few things with you I love about New Zealand. I grew up north of Wellington, the nearest city with a university where I studied law. I am interested in human rights. I was drawn back to the Pacific with the beautiful locations. It is not all happy holidays, there are issues and political volatility. Tensions, challenges, threats, abuses, neocolonialism.
I want to assist in community development by effective dispute resolution and human rights. For that reason I am studying at the Leiden University regional dispute resolution process.
Rotary offered me a scholarship, it really focussed me on: why do I want to do this? I made a comprehensive application where they also asked me: what do you intend to do after your scholarship?
International law is a good tool for conflict resolution.
I live on the Rapenburg in a house from 1540.
The study is one thing, it changed my life. Rotary forms a wide community to help me, that is much much more than a scholarship, it gives me chances for contact. I am part of a public international community.
I take international law home. You have a rich history about that. I stay in contact with the Rotarians in New Zealand. I want to be a great ambassador for Rotary and New Zealand.
After my study I give presentations to my sponsor districts and want to work for some kind of governmental or international organization.
There are so many extraordinary people here that I want to come back to Europe, where I love Holland especially.
Nieuw-Zeelandse specialiteiten: de hoofdstad Wellington, ukelele, kiwi's, nucleairvrij, eerste land met vrouwenstemrecht in 1893, 8-urige werkdag, gevoelig voor humor, mooie natuur, rugby, Haka ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eGCsEQ15L4 ), Maoricultuur, stijlvolle schoenen, Marmite, Hobbits en 1,4 miljoen schapen.
